Torbjörn Westerlund

Developer, Sundsvall
Position since: 2020
Background: I found my interest in programming very early in life as a 13 year old. For the past 15 years I have worked in IT, mainly as a developer. Before I started at Nordiska, I had just taken a job at Biometria after working as a consultant for 6 years. It was a rewarding time as a consultant where I got to try out many different techniques and got to know a lot of people from different companies. But it was hard to make a long-term impact as a consultant, so I chose to take a different form of employment.

Tell us about your role and what a working day can look like?
My working days are usually interspersed with meetings and time for focused work. Meetings can be about anything from how to design an upcoming job to how to develop guidelines for a well-functioning development department.

What is the best thing about your job?
The best thing is that I feel that I can be involved and influential. The opportunity to improve and find new solutions based on experience from previous workplaces gives a sense of long-term contribution and benefit.

Which qualities do you think are most important for success in your role?
Drive, interest and humility. Competence can always be acquired.

What do you think distinguishes Nordiska as an employer?
Nordiska has the same drive, long-term goals and ambition as a start-up company. But the big advantage is that Nordiska has a stable foundation and is already a successful company. In Sundsvall, Nordiska stands out by being one of the few product companies a developer can go to.
